BYD's market share in the new energy light truck segment has surged
The new energy light truck sector is currently benefiting from a “triple boost” of policy support, technological advancement, and rising demand. From January to August 2025, domestic sales in China exceeded 105,000 units, up 94% year-on-year. The annual sales are expected to surpass 150,000 units, with the penetration rate in the light truck market reaching 30% for the first time.
Among them, urban cold-chain logistics, community group buying, and last-mile delivery services continue to expand. It is estimated that the new energy light truck market will maintain a growth rate of over 40% in 2026. Industry experts predict that from 2025 to 2027, the sector will reach a turning point of large-scale adoption, becoming the main driver of urban logistics electrification.
In September 2025, according to the latest insurance registration data for new energy light trucks, the top three brands were Farizon, Foton, and Sinotruk. During the same month, BYD’s new energy light truck achieved sales of 1,057 units, a month-on-month increase of 58.5%, capturing a 6.65% market share and ranking among the industry’s top five. Notably, BYD was only 16 units behind JAC, coming very close to taking the fourth position.
For new energy vehicles, the battery is particularly crucial, and BYD has made “safety” the top selling point of its light trucks with the introduction of its Blade Battery. Light trucks typically run 80,000–100,000 kilometers per year, making battery cycle life and thermal runaway risk the users’ biggest concerns.
BYD directly integrated its mass-produced passenger car Blade Battery into the T5: it offers a cycle life of over 3,000 times—equivalent to 1.2 million kilometers—while the industry average is only 600,000 to 800,000 kilometers. In the nail penetration test, it does not catch fire, and it maintains stable output even when fully loaded at 60°C. The direct-cooling technology improves heat exchange efficiency by 18%, achieving over 95% range performance in summer urban delivery conditions.
In the public discourse around “battery safety,” BYD has elevated light trucks to passenger car safety standards through its technology, earning an overwhelming reputation in the industry.
